Firewalking
-
Complete a firewalk to raise money for charity. Provided the safety of the event is kept at the top of your priority list, there is nothing quite like firewalking to get people's attention. Although not a sport in the average sense, it is an activity that requires training, planning and a certain level of fitness and balance to get it right. Firewalking is also considered daring, but it actually doesn't have to be difficult. After all, the real aim of a fundraising activity is not to keep you fit and healthy but to raise money effectively for the charity or children's organization of your choice. According to Better Fundraising Ideas, firewalking is completely safe and enjoyable, provided you bring in a team of experts to set the equipment up (See Reference 1). To make the process more entertaining and to raise even more cash, ask people to sponsor you a bit more for every extra meter you walk.
Distance Running
-
Completing a distance run is a great way of increasing awareness, attracting sponsors and showing your skills as an athlete. It will take a substantial amount of organization, but, the more effort your sponsors can see you put in, the more likely they will be to donate. Advertise the run you are planning in your local neighborhood. Set yourself an achievable goal such as, for example, a 10-km run along the roads or a long-distance, off-road, half-marathon, depending on how confident you are in your ability in an individual run. Having an audience watch or join on your day out will make the difference to your fundraising success.
Cycling
-
If you are a competent cyclist, there is no better way to raise money for charity than to design and complete a cycling event of your choice. All you have to do is plan the distance and route carefully and put in some training. Give yourself lots of time to collect sponsorship from as many people as possible and to advertise the location of your individual cycling event. You can train to cycle from one place to another, up a steep mountain or across difficult terrain. If endurance is too much, go for a cycle route that means something to the people you are raising money for. Long-distance cycling is now a popular choice for raising money, as explained by Sports Doing Good, so there is no reason why individuals cannot use this approach.
Individual Paralympic Event
-
Individual athletes who use wheelchairs can raise money for their chosen charities by showcasing their skills in a Paralympic-style event like a track race. The 100-m and 200-m sprints are exciting and attract plenty of spectators. Able-bodied individuals can also complete a sporting activity using a wheelchair to raise money for charity and to attract sponsorship. This also forms part of an interesting educational experience for people who do not know what it is like to make use of a wheelchair to move around. Again, you will need to organize the activities carefully, promote the event widely and allow people to join in. However, this event can be run by an individual person who collects sponsorship. Ask for a local Paralympic athlete to help you by attending the event and demonstrating her skills.
