How to Draft a Fantasy Hockey Team
Instructions

1
Join a fantasy hockey league of your choice. You need to pay close attention before signing up to how points will be awarded, how the draft will be run and other details of how the league will operate. Each league will have its own rules for how the draft will proceed and deadlines for drafting players to your team.
-
2
Pick players who have consistent records over several seasons in terms of the number of goals scored and assists tallied as well as their point per game average.
-
3
Spend wisely. Many drafts operate under salary caps so it's important to keep in mind your overall budget. One great player on an otherwise bad fantasy hockey team will not be enough to win in most cases. Rather, think about quality players spread out over all positions.
-
4
Choose your goaltender carefully. The goaltender stats are often very important to the standing of the fantasy hockey team. Consider the team he will be playing for, how much he will be playing, his past record and averages and other information that is pertinent to his play during the season.
-
5
Monitor the NHL carefully. Examine players for potential contract disputes, lingering injuries or moves to other teams that may affect their averages. You will need to continually pay attention to the NHL and the players on your fantasy team during the season in order to track injuries and make changes to your fantasy starting lineup.
-
6
Gather your preferences and participate in your fantasy hockey league's draft. Have back up players in mind in case your choices are chosen by another league member. In some leagues, players can be drafted by multiple owners while in others, the player can only be listed on one team.
