How to Donate 49ers Tickets to Charity

If you were planning to attend a San Francisco 49ers football game but it turns out you can't, your ticket does not have to go to waste. An option is to donate the ticket to a charity you are passionate about. Not only is it a feel-good deed, but if the ticket is donated to an organization with a tax-exempt status, you can claim the ticket's value as a tax deduction. The organization may give the ticket directly to someone in need or auction it to raise money.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the date of the ticket. The farther in advance you are able to donate the ticket, the better it is for the charity.

    • 2

Use the 49ers' official Kids to Stands charity ticket donation program. For the 2010 season, tickets donated through the program were redistributed by the Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Bay Area.

    • 3

Mail the tickets you want to donate to:

      San Francisco 49ers

      Attn: Kids to Stands

      4949 Centennial Blvd

      Santa Clara, CA 95054

Alternatively, you can donate through the team's ticket exchange program by logging on at www.49ers.com/myaccount or contacting a ticket sales representative at 415-464-9377 for instructions.

Wait to receive a donation receipt letter detailing the value of your donation after the season is over.

    • 5

Choose another charity if you opt not to use the official 49ers program. There are many organizations that happily accept donations such as sporting event tickets. Contact the organization to see what the process is for making the donation. Make sure to ask for a donation receipt to use for tax-deduction purposes.
