University Homecoming Theme Ideas

Homecoming is almost always associated with a football weekend at major universities. At homecoming, former students and graduates come back to campus to remember college life, watch a football game and participate in homecoming activities with the students.

  1. Oldies Weekend

    • On homecoming weekend, have an oldies dance and party. Many of those celebrating probably went to school after the 1950s, but make the central theme of the homecoming weekend a '50s dance that gets everybody involved. Ask everyone to dress up in clothes from that era and bring in a band that plays music from the 1950s. Put decorations and newspaper stories up from that era so everyone is caught up in the nostalgia

    Mardi Gras Weekend

    • You didn't go to college to party. At least that wasn't what you told your parents. You got your degree and you learned something. But a good deal of your time was probably spent in that ancient college tradition of partying. In the tradition of college parties, do a Mardi Gras theme for your homecoming weekend. Hand out beads to everyone and make those famous hurricanes cocktails to all who attend. Mardi Gras should be joyous and that's a great theme for homecoming.

    Rock Star Weekend

    • If you want a lively homecoming weekend, base it on rock stars. Have those in for homecoming dress up like their favorites rock stars from their era. A few examples include Elvis Presley, Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen or Peter Frampton. No matter who is chosen, it should make for a raucous party and a great theme for a memorable weekend.
