Homecoming Hero Theme Parade Ideas

Homecoming is a time to celebrate your students, school and community. This celebration consists of games, posters, pep assemblies and a big parade. The parade is typically the culmination of a week packed with activities. Creating a successful theme is the key to a winning parade. Hero themes are one way to honor past and present heroes, real and fictitious. Have fun and be creative with your hero theme.
  1. Armed Forces

    • Honor those who serve our country and protect our freedom by using the Armed Forces as the theme for your parade. Consider giving each class or organization a different branch, such as having freshmen recognize the Army, sophomores the Navy, juniors the Marines and seniors the Air Force. Instead of breaking them down like this, you could also follow a general red, white and blue theme respecting the Armed Forces as a whole. Create a personal twist by recognizing local service members at the parade by inviting them to participate, or listing names on posters, after obtaining permission to do so.

    Community Heroes

    • Recognize your own hometown heroes. These people can include anyone who makes a difference such as school supporters, parents, teachers, police men and women, firefighters and volunteers. Decide what qualities are important in a community hero, and let groups decide their own style for the parade. Consider using slogans like "Hometown Heroes," "Our Coach, Our Hero," or "Making a Difference at Home." Dedicate each float to a different group of heroes. Again, consider asking those heroes to participate in the parade by riding on your float.

    Student Heroes

    • From sport all-stars to academic whizzes, use the homecoming parade to recognize the heroes within your school. Choose organizations or individuals who have helped or inspired the school. For example, recognize students who have gone above and beyond to show school spirit. Consider recognizing the various sports teams who have performed exceptionally well or have overcome challenges. Choose to recognize the leaders of those teams or organization with slogans like, "Our Captain is Our Hero."

    Comic Book Heroes

    • Instead of choosing real heroes, use superheroes from your favorite comic books as your homecoming parade theme. From Superman to the X-Men, you are certain to inspire laughter and excitement. Consider dressing up your sports teams as superheroes and have them ride through the parade in floats decorated to match the theme. For example, dress the captain of the team as Batman and design the float like the Batmobile for him to ride on.
