Float Ideas for a Homecoming Parade

With alumni, students and the community all excited about homecoming, everyone wants to have the best float in the homecoming parade. There is usually a homecoming theme that is used for all of the events leading up to the big game. This common theme helps connect the activities that are part of the festivities and makes planning easier. Focus on this theme when deciding on an idea for your float.
  1. Hollywood Theme

    • Put your team center stage by using a Hollywood theme for your float. Roll out the red carpet, literally, on your float to showcase your team with lights and glamor. Do not forget the paparazzi that are sure to follow your star-studded team. Consider movie premiers, awards shows and production sets as possible backdrops for your float. Those riding on the float can dress the part with glamorous outfits, large sun glasses and security guards for protection.

    Fairytale Theme

    • Mirror, mirror on the wall, your team is the best of all. Use a fairytale theme for your homecoming float by decorating your float with castles or dungeons. You can twist your favorite fairytale to your needs. Follow the storyline by using your team as the good characters and the opposing team as the evil characters. Dress the part by having your team members dress up like knights in shining armor and create your very own "happily ever after" by winning the best float award.

    Western Theme

    • Lead a wagon train with your western-themed float. You can decorate your float as a saloon, ghost town or open range. Depending on your resources, look for costumes to match an old western time period. Your team can be dressed up as lawmen, ready to "clean up" the town by wiping out the opponent. Another idea is to make an old-fashioned jail cell and have your opponents "locked up."

    Casino Theme

    • Place your bet on the hometown team on a casino-themed float. Odds are everyone will enjoy seeing your float suggesting that your team is the favorite going into the game. Design a casino setting on your float with blackjack tables, slot machines or a poker table. You could also make huge dice or cards for additional decoration. Decorate the winning hand in team colors or with the team members' faces.
