How to Frame a Sports Jersey

Whether your sports jersey is a collector's item or you just like it a lot, you may want to frame it and hang it on the wall. It can keep the jersey from getting messed up and is an easy way to show it off to friends. Since jerseys are pretty light and flat, they are one of the easiest things to frame. In fact, you should be able to do it in about 15 to 20 minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Fold your jersey the way you would like it displayed in the frame. Then measure its height and width while it is folded. Purchase a frame, mat, backing board and Plexiglas sheet that will accommodate those measurements, with a 1-inch clearance on each side.

    • 2

Lay the mat on the table and place the jersey on top of it in your chosen position. Then take your needle and thread and sew the back of the jersey to the mat at the bottom of the jersey, right below the neckline and at the start of each sleeve. Make sure the thread only goes through the back of the jersey so it doesn't show. Knot the ends of the threads and tape them to the back of the mat.

    • 3

Place the mat on top of the backing board. Then pull the paper off of the Plexiglas. Put the Plexiglas on top of the jersey. Tape the mat, backing board and Plexiglas together so that nothing moves or slips.

    • 4

Stick the top and two sides of the shadowbox frame together at the corners (they should fit securely). Slide the matted jersey into the frame. Attach the bottom of the frame to complete the picture.

    • 5

Check all of the frame's corners to make sure they are both straight and tight. You may want to use a level. Then place spring clips in the gap between the board and the frame. This will tighten the fit even further to insure that the jersey doesn't shift.

Attach the wire to the back of the frame using the mounting hardware so you can hang up your jersey for display.
