How to Get Accurate Shots in Archery

One of the most important parts of archery hunting is accuracy. Accuracy means you are able to consistently shoot your bow and hit the intended target with every shot hitting close together. If a bowhunter shoots at an animal and misses the kill zone, the animal can run away and later die without the hunter finding it. Archers can take steps to improve their skills and get accurate shots more often.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear the same clothes you plan to hunt in when you are target practicing with your bow. It will let you get used to shooting in what you hunt in.

    • 2

Practice target shooting often with your bow. Target shooting lets archers work on their stances and get comfortable shooting their bows.

    • 3

Experiment with your stance to find what works best. Some archers shoot standing straight up while others prefer shooting at a slight angle.

    • 4

Find your anchor spot and use the same spot each time. Most archers anchor right at chin level but some choose to anchor just above or under the chin. See which spot works best for you.

    • 5

Relax and control your breathing right before you take a shot. Many archers get anxious right before they let their arrows fly and it causes them to pull to the side. Just let the string go as easily as possible.

    • 6

Inspect each accessory on your bow each time you target shoot to ensure everything is in top shape.
