How to Construct an Archery Target

The sport of archery is typically learned at school or during a trip to summer camp. Children learn the sport from teachers or counselors and often become very excited by it. They come home wanting to practice, which leaves their parents wondering how to make it happen. There is no way to avoid the purchase of a bow and some arrows. There are ways to make archery targets, though, so at least some money can be saved on that. Adults as well can make use of homemade targets to save money and get in some practice shots.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn both 100-pound feed bags inside out.

    • 2

Put one feed bag inside the other, creating a double layer.

    • 3

Cut all zippers, buttons and snaps off the old clothing with the scissors. Remove all hard things from the materials you will be using to create your archery target.

    • 4

Stuff the old clothing inside the feed bag and push it down so that the feed bags are full. Place enough old clothing in the bag so that the bag is full but not too full to close.

    • 5

Sew the feed bags closed. Thread the craft needle with the yarn and use a whip stitch to sew the bag closed.

    • 6

Draw your target on the bag using the spray paint or markers. Draw whatever you choose for this, such as a bull's-eye, three large dots on top of each other or an animal.

    • 7

Hang your target with rope. Use the scissors to create a hole in the top corners of your target and pass the rope through the holes. Hang your target anywhere you like. This could be from a clothesline, fence, tree or anywhere else that is available.
