How to Remove Archery Arrows

Archery is the sport of shooting an arrow at a target, usually with specially made bows for sport archery and rounded bullet-shaped field tips. Removing an archery arrow is fairly easy, but care must be taken as to not bend the shaft while pulling the arrow from the target, or damage the fletching if it is embedded in the target.

Instructions

    • 1

Grab the arrow shaft. Make a fist around the shaft, placing your thumb and index finger flush against the target. Place the other hand flat on the target.

    • 2

Slightly twist back and forth and slowly pull backwards simultaneously until the arrow becomes loose.

    • 3

Pull the arrow backwards in a straight line slowly until the arrow is removed from the target. If the arrow is embedded at an angle, pull backwards keeping in line with the angle. If the fletching (feathered end) is embedded in the target, go to the other side of the target, and pull the arrow through the target.

    • 4

Inspect the arrow for any damage such as a bent tip, or any bends in the shaft. If you see any bends or damage, do not attempt to use the arrow again.
