1
Bring the bow up to your ready stance. A good stance is one where the bow is parallel to your body, the bow center is just below the shoulder and you have a straight line of sight from your dominant eye.
-
2
Nock an arrow and take aim at the center of the target. Start at a distance of no more than 10 yards from the target. Release the string and let the arrow fly. A good release is where you let the fingers slide off the pressure. Do not jerk or tug on the release. With each successive shot, begin to zero in to the center of the target. Aim for the same spot each time.

3
Add a stand to the front of the target, high enough so you set an apple or soft object at the center of the target. Stand 10 yards and away and shoot for the dead center each time.

4
Continue this training, learning the nuances of wind, balance and adjustments. As your skills grow, learn to "push the bow" to the target, not pull the bowstring back. This means you apply pressure to the bow itself during the draw (where the string comes back) and not pull the string. This gives a stable platform and keeps you balanced.

5
Stick an old wooden arrow into the center of the target when you are ready to try the arrow splitting. Remember all your past training, inhale as your push the bow forward, exhale and release the arrow toward the wooden target arrow. Look for the split arrow indicating you have just accomplished a very difficult task.
