How to Make an Arrow Target

There are many commercial arrow targets available but many of these are expensive. A cheaper alternative is to make your own arrow target using unwanted materials from around the house. Making your own reusable arrow target will rid your house of unwanted materials while giving you a cheap alternative to expensive commercial arrow targets.

  • Ice pick
  • String

      Cut the tarp into two 3-by-4-foot rectangles. This size is good for all-around target practice. You can modify the shape and size of the rectangular pieces to better accommodate different uses.

      Align the two pieces and poke holes along the edges of the tarp pieces with the ice pick. As you punch the holes, thread the string through the holes. This will close the perimeter, making what is essentially a large bag. Leave one end open.

      Stuff the target with any stuffing material you have available. Plastic sheeting, plastic grocery bags, pieces of foam or even old clothing will make excellent stuffing material. Stuff the target as tightly as possible. The denser you make the target, the better it will perform.

      Close the open end of the target using the ice pick and string.

      Draw targets on the tarp using a dry erase marker. This will allow you to change the placement of the targets whenever you wish.
