How to Make a Homemade Target

Making your own archery target is easy. Making one that will be effective and will last a long time is a little more involved, but still easy with a little preparation and time. With commonly found building materials you can build you own archery target that will last for years. In order to get as much as you can out of your practice, a good target needs to be able to withstand quite a bit of wear and tear from your arrows.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut many strips of cardboard using the scissors so that they are 8-inches wide by 40-inches long. Continue until you have 50 inches when they are stacked and pressed down.

    • 2

Drill one hole in the center of each end of the 2-by-8 boards, 1 inch from each end. This hole should be the same diameter as the threaded rods you acquired.

    • 3

Sandwich the cut cardboard sheets on top of each other, stacking them on the 2-by-8 wood board until you reach 50-inches high.

    • 4

Place the other 2-by-8 board on top of the stacked cardboard sheets, and pass the two threaded rods through the holes in either end of each 2 by 8.

    • 5

Screw on a nut and washer to each exposed end of each threaded rod, tighten with a wrench and tightly sandwich the stack of cardboard sheets between the 2 by 8's. If the cardboard stack compresses to less than 40 inches, loosen the nuts on one 2 by 8, remove, add more cardboard sheets and compress again. It is important to compress the cardboard tightly as this compression is what will effectively stop your arrows.

Support your target using two sticks to the desired angle, draw a target diagram or figure onto a piece of paper and pin onto the target. The target is now ready for use.
