How to Change a Parker Compound Bow String

Parker Compound Bows are powerful weapons featuring strings under extreme tension; the strings wear and fray with each fired arrow. Parker suggests replacing the strings annually, or when the strings are noticeably damaged. If a bow string breaks during use, it can cause serious damage to the user.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the bow in the bow press.

    • 2

Loosen the bow's bottom pins with an Allen wrench. The bottom pins are located where the limbs touch the riser.

    • 3

Turn the lower adjustment-screws on the bow press to tighten them. Turn the screws clockwise.

    • 4

Wrap the retaining bands on the bow press across the limbs; this secures the bow.

    • 5

Adjust one of the press side-pins until it touches the bow 1/2 inch below the cam. Attach the piston to the side bar.

    • 6

Count the holes on the side bar. Connect the opposite side in the same place. The connections must be symmetrical.

    • 7

Crank the bow press clockwise. This flexes the limbs, taking pressure off the bow string. Stop cranking when the string sags.

    • 8

Pull the string from the holding pin on each end. Discard the bow string.

    • 9

Place one end of a replacement Parker string on the bottom cam-pin. Wrap the string around the bottom cam, and then the top cam. The string must fit comfortably in both cam tracks.

    • 10

Place the end of the string on the top cam-pin.

    • 11

Crank the bow press counterclockwise; slowly apply tension to the bow string. Remove the bow from the bow press.
