How to Improve My Mathews Q2 Bow

The Mathews Q2 compound bow was manufactured between 2000 and 2004. The discontinued bow remains valuable because it utilizes a built-in dampening system that reduces vibration and helps silence the bow. The Q2 was sold with a bowstring, but the owner is responsible for accessories and upgrades. Improving the performance requires the addition of several important features and a maintenance plan to ensure smooth performance. Improving the bow is an easy task that does not require any special tools outside of a hex wrench.

      Add an arrow rest immediately above the handle. Locate the slot for the rest attachment above the handle and screw the rest bracket to the slot with a hex wrench.

      Attach a stabilizer bar to the front of the bow. Locate the threaded gap below the handle on the front side of the bow. Screw the threaded end of the stabilizer bar directly into the threaded opening.

      Add pin sights above the arrow rest and on the front side of the bow. Locate the two grooves above the rest and the threaded holes on the corners of the grooves. Align the sight bracket with the holes and use a hex wrench to attach the sights.

      Install string silencers above and below the nocking point on the string. The silencers are small pieces of rubber with groove that fits the string. Split the string in half with a spreader and release the string with each piece in one of the silencer grooves. Tie a short section of serving thread on each side of the silencers to prevent the string from spreading.

      Dab a thin layer of bowstring wax to dry and chaffed areas on the bowstring. The wax helps maintain and increase the life of the string. Dry bowstrings also perform poorly and vibrate heavily.

      Apply a small drop of silicone lubricant to the axle. Add the lubricant to the point where the axle pivots. The dry axle does not turn smoothly and it may make a squeaking noise. The lubrication maintains a smooth and quiet motion.
