How to Install a Bow String

The bow is a weapon comprised of two parts: the sturdy arm, or limb, and the moveable, tension-held string. Professionals recommend that you replace your string every year to maintain peak performance. You can easily install a new string onto your bow without special equipment.

Instructions

    • 1

Find the tension nut on the middle of the bow's limb. The nut is usually on the upper part of the central limb, just below the edge of the upper limb.

    • 2

Loosen the nut by a few turns with a wrench to relax the limbs. You should be able to easily slide the string off the bow.

    • 3

Put the new string on the bow by placing the looped ends over the hooks on the ends of the limbs.

    • 4

Tighten the nut back to its original position. If you loosened it by three turns, for instance, you need to tighten it by three turns to retain the correct tension.
