How to String a Korean Bow

Archery is a sport that is practiced by hundreds of nations and cultures across the world. While this sport is wide spread and even part of the Olympic games, the actual bows used from nation to nation can vary greatly. Something that seems simple, like stringing a bow, can work differently from one type of bow to another. This is why it's a legitimate question to ask how to string a Korean bow.

Instructions

    • 1

Put the top string loop around the nock on the upper limb. You must hold it in place by pushing it against the bridge pad.

    • 2

Face the belly of the bow out away from you as you're standing, and place the back of the lower limb of the bow above your left knee, and your right leg over top of the bow. If you've done this correctly, then the back of your right knee should be against the belly of the bow and your foot acts as a brace or stop for the bottom of the bow.

    • 3

Remain standing, and flex the bow, bending it enough so you can string up the lower nock.

    • 4

Place the string in its place on the lowest nock. Then twist the string counter-clockwise several times and place the end loop on the ridge, allowing the bow string to untwist and make sure the string is stretched taunt around each nock of the bow.

    • 5

Test the string by drawing the bow back. Examine the string loops and how they "lift" off the bow while drawing a shot. If the string twists at all, then the bow string needs to be twisted more on the lower limb to steady the aim.
