How to Put a Drawstring on a Bow

The tips of the limbs on a recurve bow curve away from the archer. This design is what gives the bow its name. A reverse curve in the bow limbs allow recurve bows to store more energy than a straight-limbed bow. The recurve bow's ability to store greater amounts of energy translates to the capability to fire arrows at greater speeds than straight-limb bows.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the large loop of the new string onto the end of the top limb.

    • 2

Attach the bow stringer. Slide the longer pouch of the bow stringer over the bottom limb. Attach the top of the string to the upper limb.

    • 3

Place the bow stringer on the ground, and hold it between your feet. Hold the upper limb, keeping the string in the string groove.

    • 4

Bend the bow by pushing the handle of the bow stringer. Place the free loop around the string groove on the bottom limb.

    • 5

Slowly release the tension from the bow string until the bow takes the full tension from the bowstring. Keep both loops in the string grooves.

    • 6

      Remove the bow stringer.
