How to Tell If a Compound Bow Is Good?
Instructions

1
Inspect the pulleys completely. Look for any loose gaps between the pulleys and the spindles on the bow shaft. Feel for any lateral movement. Draw the string back and feel for any thunking or dead thuds on the pulleys. If either of these are present, the bearings are most likely shot and are no good. Feel for smooth movement with little to no noise from the pulleys.

2
Check the "limb pocket" and "limb bolt." The limb pocket is a small cover on the upper outside edge of the bow shaft. The limb pocket keeps cracks from developing on the shaft at tension and stress points. Make sure the limb pocket has no cracks and is secured to the shaft. The limb bolt is similar but is on the underside of the bow.

3
Check the grip. Make sure the grip has a textured handle and that it is not worn down from excess use. Make sure the grip is not cracked and is bolted to the bow shaft.
-
4
Hold the bow up and "dry draw" the string. This is pulling the bow string back without an arrow nocked. Look down the center sites and make sure they are aligned and not falling off the bow.
-
5
Take several practice shots with the bow to ensure the pulleys and tension are allowing the arrow straight flight.
