How to Tune a Mathews Reezen

Tuning your Mathews Reezen bow will improve arrow flight and increase accuracy. Correctly adjusting the tiller, followed by proper paper tuning, will provide the information needed to adjust the nock point, draw weight, arrow rest and arrow type for maximum performance. Paper tuning will result in a star-shaped rip in the paper, along with some additional tearing. The tearing is called nock-end rip. If there is no nock-end rip, the bow is properly tuned. If there is ripping, the location -- low, high, left or right -- indicates what adjustments are needed.

Instructions

  1. Get Prepared

    • 1

Adjust the bow's tiller adjustment by tightening both limbs fully then backing them off an equal number of turns until you reach the desired draw weight.

    • 2

Place a paper target several feet from the firing line. For best results, the target should be supported on two opposing sides.

    • 3

Align the backstop behind the target. Make sure it is far enough behind to allow the arrow to pass all the way through the paper before it hits the backstop.

    • 4

Fire an arrow through the paper using your best shooting form.

    • 5

Find the hole made by the arrow point and look for any additional tearing. If a nock-end rip is present, take the proper corrective action.

    Ripped Low

    • 6

Raise the nock point a little at a time until problem is corrected.

    • 7

Try an arrow with a heavier tip.

    • 8

Try an arrow with a more limber spine.

    Ripped High

    • 9

Lower the nock point a little at a time.

    • 10

Try using a lighter tip on the arrow.

    • 11

Try an arrow with a stiffer spine.

    Ripped Right

    • 12

Increase the draw weight. Tighten both limbs of the bow the same amount to maintain the tiller adjustment.

    • 13

Adjust the arrow rest to the left a little at a time.

    • 14

Try an arrow with a heavier point or a lighter spine.

    • 15

      Use a longer arrow.

    Ripped Left

    • 16

Decrease the draw weight. Loosen both limbs of the bow the same amount to maintain the tiller adjustment.

    • 17

Adjust the arrow rest to the right a little at a time.

    • 18

Use an arrow with a lighter point or a heavier spine.

    • 19

      Try using a shorter arrow.
