How to Install Arrow Nocks

Nocks are a vital component of an ideally functioning arrow. These tiny plastic, two-pronged tips are what attach the arrow to the bow string, allowing it to fire. With repeated use of the arrow, the nock will eventually wear down or break, creating the need for a new one. You may also need to install a nock on a new arrow, as not all come with the device.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the old nock if necessary by briefly holding it up to a small flame to loosen the glue. Pull at it with pliers until it comes off. Sand any remaining glue away using fine grit paper.

    • 2

Squeeze a small drop of glue on the top of the arrow shaft and use a tooth pick or other similar device to spread it around, covering the entire tip. Urethane glue works the best when it comes to bonding different material types.

    • 3

Line the nock prongs up so that they fall evenly between two of the feathers and push it into place over the end of the shaft. Check to see that the nock is on straight by holding the arrow close to your eye and looking down the center. Make any necessary adjustments before the glue sets.

Give the glue at least 24 hours of drying time before using the arrow.
