How to Make Targets for Shooting a Bow

It can be difficult to perfect your aim in archery if you don't have a target for practice. Targets can help you sight in your bow, and adjust your stance and release technique because it gives you a reference to work with. If you can't make it to the archery store, you can simply create your own archery target using household materials. With a little bit of target practice, you'll be shooting the bull's-eye consistently.

Instructions

    • 1

Cut the cardboard into a square shape that is at least two feet in length and width, using scissors.

    • 2

Locate the center of the cardboard square. Use a measuring tape or yardstick to find the center point of each side of the square. Connect the center points of the square's opposite sides, using a pencil. The square's center is where the two lines cross.

    • 3

Determine how large you would like to make your target. You can choose to space the target's rings 2, 3 or 4 inches apart. The narrower the rings are, the higher your target's difficulty will be. Make markings along the crossed lines, starting from the center, using the spacing you determined. Make 5 markings total, which will span between 10 and 20 inches, depending on your chosen spacing.

    • 4

Load a felt pen into the drawing compass. Place the compass pin in the center of the cardboard and adjust the compass so the tip of the felt pen is at the first mark. Draw a circle, using the compass.

    • 5

Adjust the compass so that the tip of the felt pen is at the next mark. Use the compass to draw a second circle.

    • 6

Repeat step 5 until you have 5 circles drawn.

    • 7

      Erase all pencil marks.

    • 8

Select two contrasting marker colors for your target. Color the target in with the markers so that each circle alternates in color.
