How to Keep Score at a Badminton Tournament

Badminton is an exciting sport that has many tournaments at the local, national, and international level. The game is played on a rectangular court using rackets and a shuttlecock. The court is divided in half by a net with opposing players on the opposite side of the court. The objective of the games is to hit the shuttlecock to the opposing side of the net. Points are scored when one side commits an error and does not get the shuttlecock over the net. In a tournament, keeping score is an official process that uses a simple method.

      Tell the players that the match will consist of three games. Tell players that each game will have 21 points, and the winner must win by 2 points. The match winner must win two of three games.

      Count a point on every serve. Give the point to the side that wins the rally.

      Give the game to the side that reaches 21. However, if the score is 21-20, the game continues until one side gains a 2-point advantage. If the game reaches a point where both sides have a score of 29, the first side to reach 30 wins.

      Start and score the next game.Record the side that wins the game. Begin the third game to finish the match. A third game is not needed if the same side has won the two previous games.
