Badminton Net Information
-
Dimensions
-
The thickness of the net should be between 15 mm and 20 mm, with a 75 mm white-taped edge. The depth should be 2 feet, 6 inches, and it should be 21 feet long. Remember that the playing court should always be somewhat shorter than the net's length, 20 feet in doubles and 17 feet in singles.
Poles
-
Nets should be attached to poles specifically designed for holding up a badminton net. These poles are generally quite sturdy for professional indoor badminton players, but store-bought poles meant for outdoor-play can be flimsy and weak. To stabilize outdoor poles so that the net does not sag more than an inch, tie two ropes to the top of each pole and hammer the ropes into stakes in the ground, pulling the poles outward until they are vertical.
Indoor or Outdoor
-
Badminton may be played indoors or outdoors, but the net is still the vital part of the game. If set up outdoors for private use, especially if playing with children, the net may be set at any level that works for the circumstances. Indoor play is generally more strict, and the nets should be set at professional specs.
Net Material
-
Nets come in a variety of materials, and whether they are made of nylon, vinyl or polyethelene, nets should hold up for many years and hundreds of games. Avoid tugging on the net; it is not as durable as those used in volleyball and tennis.
Height
-
Tie the top edges 5 feet, 1 inch high on both sides. Since badminton nets are not quite as taut as tennis or volleyball nets, the net should droop about an inch in the middle. Measuring from the top middle of the net to the floor, it should be 5 feet.
