Information on the Rawlings RBG 70

Rawlings has been one of the largest names in baseball equipment since the company was founded in 1887, and it offers a number of baseball gloves. One such glove, the Rawlings RBG 70, is part of the brand's signature series. These gloves can be used at all levels of the sport and come in different sizes for different ages and different players. The RBG 70 can be used as an infield or outfield glove.
  1. Specifications

    • Like most high-quality gloves, the RBG 70 is made of a leather shell and comes in both right-handed and left-handed varieties. The glove is a fielder's glove, meant for use by pitchers, any infielder or any outfielder. It is made shorter than a first baseman's glove, and it features a standard 11-1/2 inch design. It can be ordered and purchased in smaller sizes; the 11-1/2 inch gloves are meant for most players ages 14 and up.

    Signature Series

    • The RBG 70 is a signature series glove from Rawlings, as many of the brand's mitts are. In 2011, this particular model features a signature from New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter. While Jeter has not himself used the specific glove, he does use a similar Rawlings brand. The same RBG 70 glove is also available in a limited edition with the signature of 1970s Philadelphia Phillies great Steve Carlton.

    Design

    • The mitt features a design common to Rawlings gloves, with the Rawlings "R" logo at the base of the thumb, the full logo underneath the knuckles and the printed name on the forefinger. The glove features both a fastback and a holdster slot, as well as a slot for the index finger on the outside of the glove. There is a full basket web on both sides and a deep well pocket in the palm of the hand.

    Other Information

    • The mitt originally sold for less than $100 when it was introduced in 2010, and it features a standard width of 13 inches across. The glove is deep pocketed and can be used for both baseball and softball, as well as by men and women players. The treated leather of the glove can be used as purchased, or it can be complemented with softening oil to allow for a more receptive touch with the ball.
