How to Wrap a Pitching Shoulder in Ice

Whether you pitch for fun or in serious competition, when you're done throwing for the day, you feel every pitch in your shoulder. Ease the pain in the tendons and reduce the swelling by icing your shoulder as soon as possible after you finish playing. Because shoulder pain is so prevalent among pitchers, companies offer special ice wraps to help you wrap a pitching shoulder in ice.

Instructions

    • 1

Place the ice pack onto the top of the throwing shoulder. If necessary, place a towel between your skin and the ice pack to protect the skin from direct contact with the ice.

    • 2

Leave the ice on the shoulder for 15 minutes.

    • 3

Remove the ice and leave it off for 15 minutes.

    • 4

Continue icing the shoulder for 15 minutes and then removing the ice pack for 15 minutes. Repeat over a two- to three-hour period.

    • 5

Ice the shoulder again in 15-minute intervals, on and off, on the second and third day also. Repeat the icing three or four times each day.

    • 6

Rest your shoulder on the days you ice it. Do not pitch again until any pain and swelling improves. Resume activity gradually.
