Things to Do at Halftime of a Basketball Game

When you attend a basketball game, you are likely glued to your seat during each half, closely watching the action unfold on the court. When the buzzer sounds at the end of the first half, you don't have to remain in your seat. Halftime is an ideal opportunity to get out of your seat, stretch your legs, get something to eat and find something to pass the time until the second half begins.
  1. Food

    • Even though other fans will be thinking along the same lines, halftime is a suitable opportunity to hurry to the arena's concession stands to get something to eat. Try to get to the arena's concourse just as the half ends or you'll likely end up in a long line.

    Touring

    • Halftime affords you the opportunity to walk around the arena and take in the sights. Many arenas have areas that include the team's wall of fame, a display of plaques and trophies, and a team merchandise store. Walking around the concourse also lets you stretch your legs and use the restroom before the second half begins.

    On-Court Activities

    • People who don't feel like leaving their seats can usually watch on-court entertainment. Depending on the team and the arena, a halftime show may include dancers, award ceremonies and contests for fans, such as shooting to win a prize. If you're lucky, you may even get to be part of a halftime contest on the court. Many arenas have sign-up boxes in the lobbies for fans to enter their names.

    Cellphone

    • Unless you're the type of person who uses his cellphone throughout the basketball game, halftime is a great opportunity to check your voicemail and e-mail. Using your cellphone during the game is usually frowned upon by other fans, so using it at halftime is an acceptable way to keep in touch with your friends and family without annoying those around you.
