Activities to Do During Halftime of a Basketball Game

Halftime may seem like the boring part of a game; play has stopped and many people head for refreshments and the bathroom. However, it doesn’t have to be boring. You can liven it up and keep the fans excited by doing activities during halftime. Do a different activity each game, keeping fans on the edge of their seat wondering what activity is in store for tonight’s game.
  1. Number One Fan

    • Let the cheerleaders take a break while a small group of fans come down on the floor, attempting to rile up the crowd into a frenzy of team spirit. Pit each person against the other as each tries to prove who’s the team’s #1 fan, demonstrating their dedication, passion and creativity. Award a winner by soliciting applause from the crowd for their favorite.

    Performances

    • A variety of performers can keep a basketball game crowd entertained when the players are taking a break for halftime. Such performers include cheerleaders, spirit squads, musicians, jugglers, daredevils, stunt bicyclists, animals, magicians and hypnotists.

    Tricky Shots

    • Invite a person or two down to the court to attempt a tricky shot or a number of shots in a small amount of time. Whether it’s a competition between two people or just one person, this keeps the crowd entertained with basketball, as they wonder and worry whether the contestant can make the half-court shot or five free throws in 30 seconds. Offering a prize increases the stakes and suspense of the contest.

    Air Guitar Competition

    • Turn basketball fans into Slash or Jimi Hendrix by hosting an air guitar competition during halftime. Play 30 seconds of a hit rock song over the speakers, as each contestant on the court battles it out to prove who has the best air guitar moves. Leg kicks, windmills and smashing the air guitar are all fair game. Similar to the #1 fan competition, award a winner based on audience applause.
