Backboard Assembly
-
1
Place the pair of backboard support brackets together and insert the 5-inch by 1 1/2-inch u-bolt through the lower mounting holes. Pivot the u-bolt so it engages with the notches in the bracket.
-
2
Place 1/2-inch by 2 5/16-inch spacers between the backboard support brackets, aligned with the upper mounting holes. Insert a 1/4-inch by 2 3/4-inch bolt through the brackets and spacers, and secure with a 1/4-inch centerlock nut.
-
3
Slip rubber washers over the two 5/16-inch by 2 1/4-inch tap bolts. Insert the tap bolts into the mounting slots in the net frame.
-
4
Screw two 5/16-inch hex T-nuts onto the ends of the tap bolts and tighten.
-
5
Stand the backboard up. Have an assistant hold the backboard support bracket against the back side of the backboard. Place the net and frame up to the front of the backboard, and align it with the mounting holes. Guide the tap bolts through the mounting holes in the backboard and the holes in the rear backboard support bracket. Secure the tap bolts with two 5/16-inch nylon flange nuts. Hand-tighten the flange nuts.
-
6
Strip the protective plastic coating off the backboard.
-
7
Install the screws through the holes in the top portion of the backboard support bracket and into the backboard. Tighten only one half-turn after the screws contact the bracket.
-
8
Insert the net into the loops of the net hooks.
Wall Mounting
-
9
Find a pair of consecutive studs inside the wall for the mounting of the backboard. Mark the position of the studs with a vertical line.
-
10
Measure 115 5/8 inches up from the ground. Mark the spot with a horizontal line intersecting the stud markings. Measure another 8 inches up, and mark the spot with another horizontal line parallel to the previous line.
-
11
Align one stud bracket with the lower horizontal line. Make sure the long slots in the stud bracket align with the stud position line. Secure the stud bracket to the wall using bolts or lag screws compatible with the composition of your wall.
-
12
Align the other stud bracket with the upper horizontal line. Make sure the long slots in the stud bracket align with the stud position line and that the bracket aligns with the lower bracket. Secure the stud bracket to the wall using bolts or lag screws compatible with the composition of your wall.
-
13
Install the extension brackets in both stud brackets. Secure each extension bracket with 5/16-inch by 3/4-inch hex bolts, flat washers and 5/16-inch flange nuts.
-
14
Align the smaller holes in both diagonal supports with the lower holes in the upper extension brackets. Secure each diagonal support with 5/16-inch by 3/4-inch hex bolts, flat washers and 5/16-inch flange nuts.
-
15
Align the stabilizers with the middle holes of each extension bracket and the slots in the stud brackets. Secure each stabilizer with 5/16-inch by 3/4-inch hex bolts, flat washers and 5/16-inch flange nuts.
-
16
Ask an assistant to help you lift the backboard up to the wall mounting bracket.
-
17
Align the large holes at the bottom of the extension brackets with the middle holes in the backboard support bracket. Secure with 1/2-inch by 3 1/4-inch hex bolts and 1/2-inch centerlock nuts.
-
18
Align the holes in the diagonal support with the lower extension bracket holes and the bottom holes in the backboard support bracket. Secure with 1/2-inch by 3 1/4-inch hex bolts and 1/2-inch centerlock nuts.
