1
Watch ball competitions on television or online, and see how the champions play. Become familiar with the different styles so that when you get to the table you know how the experts do it.
-
2
Learn the rules and tools required to play ball. Know that you have to pocket colored balls with the cue ball, that professional tables measure 12 feet by 6 feet and that the game begins with one player striking the cue ball from the D-shaped line at the top of the table, to open up the other balls. Otherwise, you won't know how to play in competition.
-
3
Get practicing. Professional players have their own ball tables and equipment so that they can practice as much as they wish. To begin, use the table at a local bar or social club.
-
4
Learn championship techniques to beat your opponents. For example, hit the ball with the right pressure and angle so that it pockets a ball, and then rolls into a good position for your next shot. Also, keep the tail end of your cue down so that it is at the same level as the ball. This improves the accuracy of your ball strike.
-
5
Get a coach to teach you new techniques, iron out bad habits and promote you on the local ball circuit by entering you into competitions. Look at DVDs or videos of champions together and discuss the observed techniques.
-
6
Enter competitions and beat your opponents. Use the skills, tricks and style that your coach has taught you to do this. Put all that practice to good use by pocketing the balls ahead of your opponent.
-
7
Work your way up from a local ball champion to a national league champion. Continue to practice, receive coaching support and enter competitions to obtain a high profile.
