How to Have Quick Shot Release Drills
Things You'll Need
- Basketball
- Partner (for second drill)
Instructions
-
Quick-Shot Drill
-
1
Shoot 10 jump shots at your regular speed to warm up. Relax as you shoot and concentrate on your form and technique.
-
2
Shoot 25 to 50 jump shots as quickly as you can while trying to maintain technique and form. Speed up the entire shooting process, not just the shot release at the end. Pick up the dribble, take the ball through the shooting pocket and jump before shooting.
-
3
Perform this drill before every practice or game. It will improve your quickness over time and make you a more reliable shooter.
Pressured-Shot Drill
-
4
Stand under the basket, with your partner at the top of the key. Pass him the ball.
-
5
Run out and challenge your partner's shot attempt. Do not jump or try to block the shot because this is not a defensive drill. Instead, run past the shooter.
-
6
Return to the top of the key while your partner collects the rebound from his shot and passes it to you.
-
7
Shoot the ball quickly as your partner runs out to pressure your shot. Continue this drill, with you and your partner constantly switching roles, for up to five minutes. This drill quickens your shot by simulating a game environment with a defender running toward you to block your shot.
