Instructions

  1. Making the Backboard

    • 1

Sit the sheet of plywood, plexiglass or plastic on a workbench or work surface. Use a pencil or permanent marker to draw an 18 inch by 18 inch square outline for the backboard.

    • 2

Put on your work gloves, as well as your goggles to protect your eyes from sawdust or other debris.

    • 3

Use the jigsaw to cut the backboard following the drawn outline. While using the jigsaw, turn the backboard slowly to avoid rough edges. Wipe away any loose particles.

    Making the Ring

    • 4

Take some heavy-duty wire and wrap it around a flower pot or anything with a 12-inch diameter. Twist the ends of the wire together to close the loop around the object. Let the ring stay in this position for three days. This will give the basketball ring a permanent shape.

    • 5

Slide the heavy duty wire off of the flower pot or other round object. Wrap duct tape around the circular ring to give it a better visual appearance.

    • 6

Draw a line down the middle of the backboard both vertically and horizontally. Mark a dot in the center of this cross.

    • 7

Put super glue on the side of the ring that will make contact with the backboard. Place the ring where you marked the dot. Firmly press the ring onto the backboard until it hardens. Secure with duct tape if needed.
