PBA Basketball Teams

The Philippines Basketball Association was founded in 1975 and is the oldest professional basketball league in Asia. Since the teams are company-owned franchises, the corporation name is usually part of the team's name. There are no home courts like the NBA. Games are played in venues throughout the Philippines, but most are scheduled at the Araneta Coliseum. Ten teams played in the PBA during the 2009-10 season.

  1. Barangay Ginebra Kings

    • Owned by Ginebra San Miguel Incorporated, the Ginebra Kings joined the PBA in 1979. Joseph Uichico is the head coach. Guard Mike Cortez had the highest 2-point field goal percentage during the 2009-10 season, successfully completing 60.92% of his 2-point shots in 19 games.

    Air Express 21

    • Owned by Linaheim Corporate Services, Air Express 21 joined the PBA in 2002 and is coached by Joseller Guiao. Forward Leroy Hickerson only played in six games, but averaged 32.8 points per game and claimed the No. 1 position for points per game in the 2009-10 season.

    The Alaska Aces

    • Owned by the Alaska Milk Corporation, the Aces joined the PBA in 1986. Earl Timothy Cone is the head coach. Forward Diamon Simpson averages 16 rebounds per game and is the No. 1 rebounder in the league with 335 rebounds for the 2009-10 season.

    Barako Energy Coffee Masters

    • Owned by Ginebra San Miguel Incorporated, the Coffee Masters joined the PBA in 2000. Junel Baculi is the head coach. Guard/forward Sammy Monroe ranks in the top ten for total points scored (No. 3 with 442 points), average points scored per game (No. 4 with 26.0), total rebounds (No. 8 with 158) and average rebounds per game (No. 10 with 9.3).

    Coca Cola Tigers

    • Owned by Coca-Cola Bottlers Philippines Incorporated and coached by Bo Perasol, the Tigers joined the PBA in 2002. Forward John Williamson and guard Gary David were two of the leading scorers in the league during the 2009-10 season. Williamson averaged 25.7 points per game and David averaged 22.1.

    B-Meg Derby Ace Llamados

    • Owned by San Miguel-Pure Foods Company Incorporated, the Llamados joined the PBA in 1988. They were the 2008-09 league champions, defeating the Alaska Aces, 4-0, in a best-of-seven final. Paul Ryan Gregorio is the head coach.

    Rain or Shine Elasto Painters

    • Owned by Asian Coatings Philippines, the Painters joined the PBA in 2006. Carlos Garcia is the head coach of the newest team in the league. The Painters finished the 2009-10 season with a 9-9 record, averaging 90 points per game.

    San Miguel Beermen

    • Owned by San Miguel Beverages Incorporated, the Beermen are the oldest PBA, joining in 1975. Siot Tanquincen is the head coach. Forward Gabriel Freeman was the league's the No. 2 rebounder during the 2009-10 season with 276 rebounds.

    Sta. Lucia Realtors

    • Owned by Sta. Lucia Realty & Develpoment Incorporated, the Realtors joined the PBA in 1990. Boyet Fernandez is the head coach. Guard Anthony Johnson, the leading scorer in the league with 554 points, is a graduate of the University of Louisiana.

    Talk 'n Text Topang Texters

    • Owned by the Philippines Long Distance Telephone Company Incorporated, the Texters joined the PBA in 1990. Coached by Vincent Reyes, the Texters won the 2009-10 league championship with a 15-3 record, averaging 101 points per game.
