How to Use a Surly Dingle

The Surly dingle is a specialized bicycle cog for fixed speed bikes. The name "dingle" is a combination of "dual" and "single." Surly is a company that specializes in creating single-speed bicycles and designs vehicles for bike messengers. The cog helps riders transition from street to off-road riding. The company recommends using a bicycle mechanic to install the dingle. It requires a 9-speed chain to fit between the teeth of both cogs. In addition, because the cog fits on single speed bikes, using the dingle is a little different than simply changing speeds on any other bike.
