1
Remove your back wheel. All of the necessary conversions to go from a single-speed to a fixed-gear happen to only the back wheel. Visit the local bike shop and bring your back wheel. Consult with a shop employee to find a fixed hub that works with your current wheel set. After choosing the hub that works, obtain the appropriate chain and length needed for the new fixed gear.

2
Remove the freewheel hub with a wrench. Slide out the hub and replace it with your new track hub. Tighten the bolts on the track hub to secure it in place. Loosely slide the back wheel onto the bike frame.

3
Open your new chain with a chain tool. Tighten the back wheel into place on the frame. Ensure the wheel remains straight and tighten down easy side evenly, a little bit at a time, switching between sides until the wheel is secured in place.
-
4
Slide the chain on so that it is taut, and then close the chain. Test to ensure the chain tightly clings to the teeth on the chain ring, but is not so tight that the chain cannot move freely. Lubricate the new chain with chain oil.

5
Tighten all bolts with a wrench so that it takes a tool to remove them. Do not make them hand-tight. Test ride your new fixed-gear bike, and make minor adjustments, as needed.
