Nitto Moustache Bar Specs
-
Riding style
-
Determine if your riding style fits the Moustache handlebars. The Nitto handlebars are perfect for riders who like to go fast, as well as ride casually, but have quick access to many hand positions during an array of rides. You can ride these bars off-road and on pavement, but remember to equip the proper tires for dirt riding. There's nothing less comfortable and safe than skinny road tires on dirt and gravel roads.
Stem size
-
Use a shorter stem on your bicycle (ranging between 7 cm and 9 cm), which will allow for the Nitto Moustache handlebars to sit higher than your saddle and provide a more upright but comfortable riding style. From there, you can fine-tune the location of your seat, moving it either forward or backward on the saddle rails, depending on your height and length of your arms. It's important to be comfortable, so if you don't know where your saddle needs to be located, ask your local bike shop for assistance.
Handlebar clamp size
-
Get your hands on a 26 mm handlebar clamp if your bike doesn't have one already because the diameter of the Nitto Moustache requires a clamp this size. As mentioned in Section 2, you'll need a specific stem size, so keep this in mind when you look for a 26 mm clamp. Many websites will have a variety of brands that meet both of these qualifications, and Nitto makes two models that work well with their own handlebar.
Brakes, shifters and big frames
-
The Nitto Moustache can handle your bar-end shifters and it can accept road brake levers as well. When using road brake levers, the placement is dependent on comfort, as the Moustache has many places for brake levers. If your bicycle frame is 58 cm or larger, you'll almost certainly need to purchase extra-long shifter cables and housing because of the shape and dimension of the Nitto bars. This might prove tricky for self-installation, so ask for help at your local bike shop.
