How to Improve Bicycle Hub Bearings

- Wrench
- Rag
- Waterproof grease
- Steel wool

Loosen the lock nut, using an appropriately sized wrench. Slide out the axle from the right side of the wheel hub. Remove the bearings from either side of the wheel hub.

Clean the opposing sides of the wheel hub, using the rag. Examine the bearing races to ensure they have not been damaged or bent. Squeeze the waterproof grease around each of the bearing races.

Rub the bearings with the rag to remove any built-up grime or dirt. Remove any rust from the bearings using a small piece of steel wool. Reinstall the bearings within the wheel hub.

Apply a layer of waterproof grease over the newly cleaned bearings. Insert the axle into the wheel hub. Fasten the axle in place by tightening the corresponding bolts.
