How to Load Bike Panniers
Instructions

1
Line the panniers with a garbage bag if your panniers are not waterproof. Set out all the gear needing to be placed in the panniers where you see it all in one place. Visualize the areas the gear will go.
-
2
Pack the heaviest items to the inside edge of the panniers against the frame of the bike, where the panniers hang off the rack. Keep the weight equal. For example, if you have two heavy hiking boots, place one in each pannier. Place the heavy objects as close to the same position in each pannier.
-
3
Pack items you use regularly last. Put these items on the top of the panniers for ready access.
-
4
Pack food items that will melt or are sensitive to heat deep in the panniers where the other clothing or gear insulates it. If possible, pack it in a small dry bag with an ice pack inserted next to it.
-
5
Pack the panniers so there is extra space at the top. As you tour you may pick up small souvenirs needing storage. Pack extra space to anticipate the need for extra items.
