How to Cycle in a Skirt

Riding a bike in a skirt is something many woman don't even consider. The skirt can fly up while riding, showing your underwear. Or, you can catch your skirt in the bike gears. However, if you commute on your bike, it is possible to ride to work in your skirt instead of changing once you are there.

Instructions

Wear a skirt that is somewhere between knee-high and thigh-high. Long skirts will catch in the bike gears, while short skirts will display your underwear while you ride. Choose skirts in a flexible material with a Lycra blend. Fabrics that flow freely may blow up, while skirts that are too tight may ride up. Select a skirt that is somewhere in the middle. Avoid wrapped skirts and skirts with side splits until you get the hang of riding. Wear a fitted skirt that will not blow up if you are wear a skirt with a side slit. Pedal slowly and avoid riding into the wind with these types of skirts.

Ride a woman's bicycle that has a low bar. This makes it easier to mount, dismount and stop without bunching up the skirt. A wide commuter bike seat is also more comfortable.

    • 3

Mount the bike by standing on one side. Slide your buttocks up onto the seat and then slide your foot over to the other side. If you swing your leg over and behind the bike, you will probably show your underwear. Dismount in the same fashion as you mounted.

Stop while riding your bike by putting both feet down on the ground. Don't lean the bike over to one side while resting one foot on the pedal. Again, this will display your underwear.

Wear fitted shorts or leggings under your skirt to ensure you don't show your underwear. Alternatively, attach your skirt to a garter belt to keep it in place.
