1
Atttach the float gauge included with your Rock Shox Float R shock to the gauge mount on the shock body. The extended part of the gauge should point down over the smaller part of the shock.
-
2
Examine the shock and locate the float gauge band. The gauge band looks like a small rubber band that is wrapped around the lower part of the shock. Without putting any weight on the bike itself, move the gauge band up to the top of the lower part of the shock, beneath the float gauge.
-
3
Sit on the seat of your bike in your normal riding position with your feet on the ground. Put as much weight as you can on the seat without removing your feet from the ground, then get off the bike and examine the gauge band, which will have moved when you sat down. If the gauge band sits below the recommended float marking on the float gauge, you need to increase the air pressure in the shock. If it sits above it, you need to decrease pressure.
-
4
Attach your shock pump to the air valve at the very top of the shock. The needle on the pump will jump to the current pressure of the shock when it is attached fully. Increase the pressure if needed by pumping air into the shock. Decrease pressure by pressing the air release button on the handle of the pump.
-
5
Remove the shock pump from the shock and perform the testing process again. Move the gauge band to the top of the shock, sit on the bike, then examine the movement of the band. Continue to test and make adjustments until the band sits in between the recommended float markers on the float gauge. When you are done, remove the float gauge and pump, then go out for a ride on your newly adjusted shock system.
