Join a USBC endorsed bowling association and participate in competitions. USBC bowling are located all across the country. For example, the Memphis Area USBC organization support Memphis area bowling competitions.These groups compete at the USBC network of 5,400 bowling centers located in the United States. Competing in these events will allow you to build your bowling skill set while becoming acclimated to the bowling tournament atmosphere. Participating in the USBC association will also enhance your ability to secure a college bowling scholarship. Each season, various bowling organizations offer $6,million of scholarship money to bowlers. The USBC smart program assists member bowlers with accessing this money.

Improve your skills with the assistance of a certified instructor. The USBC certifies coaches. You may find a certified instructor in your area with the "Find a Coach" tool from the Bowl.com web portal.

Review the performance requirements of your collegiate teams of choice. Organized college-level bowling teams are available at approximately 333 colleges. Different colleges enforce various eligibility rules. Knowledge of these requirements will assist you in choosing a college and help you to maintain a reasonable expectation level. For example, the Florida State men's bowling team prefers that its members bowl a strike at least 37 percent of the time. Team members who can not meet this standard are not likely to be included on the travel team. Without the ability to travel, team members can not participate in many of the USBC competitions.

Complete the USBC membership and registration form. Registration opens in late August for each upcoming season. The form may be downloaded from the Bowl.com website.

Pay the fees. Team members must pay a $25 fee to the USBC. Additional fees may be needed to pay entry into the various competitions.
