How to Bowl a 10 Pin Spare

If you love bowling, then you quickly learn that the difference between an average of 100 and 200 is all about picking up the spare. Here are some tips on how to pick up that stubborn 10 pin spare when bowling.

Move to the left. Whether you are left-handed or right-handed, your best angle will be by moving left. Since the 10 pin is found all the way on the right, this will provide you a direct line to the ball without worrying about teetering on the edge of the lane and getting a gutter ball.

Zone in on the 10 pin. Having just 1 pin left can be tough on the mind. It starts to play tricks on you and dance around a bit. Shut out all ambient noise and the birthday party in the next lane and focus on that pin.

Approach the lane and begin your bowling motion. There are many schools of thought on how to bowl the ball. Find comfort in your motion, get into the rhythm and approach the lane.

Bowl the ball while being sure to keep your wrist straight. Movement in the wrist will cause the ball to miss left or right. You want to aim for the left edge of the pin, because if you miss right, you are in the gutter.
