1
Build leg endurance. This prepares you to move around the ring for long periods and to move quickly in and out of range from your opponent. Perform 30 minute jump rope sessions to improve leg strength and endurance.
-
2
Develop your fighting skills by performing workouts such as shadow boxing and training on the heavy bag, double end bag and speed bag. Work with a trainer for punch mitt sessions and focus on sparring and defensive drills. Master your technique and fighting strategies by consistently developing your moves and punches. Work on your defense techniques such as blocking punches, slipping punches and reacting with counterpunches.

3
Improve your aerobic fitness by running. Amateur boxers typically fight two-minute rounds, which require boxers to fight intensely for that entire time. Running 600-meter intervals is ideal because this closely mimics the anaerobic demands imposed on your body during the fight. Start your interval session with a 1-mile warmup. Run in an intense pace for 600 meters and then rest for 1 minute. This equals one set. Do six sets of 600-meter intense runs and one-minute rests. Cool down by jogging for 800 meters. Perform interval running workouts two to three times per week on non-consecutive days.

4
Condition your body by doing strength training exercises like squats, chest presses and overhead presses and one-arm rear flies. Use free weight and resistance bands.
-
5
Prepare your passbook to participate in amateur boxing competitions. The passbook serves as your identification form and proof of registration that indicates your weight, opponent and fight results. Consistently monitor your weight using a weight scale and ensure you are within the required weight for your competition, especially on the day of the fight.
