How to Develop Knock Out Punching Power

When competing in combat sports, such as boxing or mixed martial arts, the ability to deliver a knock out punch makes a fighter more dangerous and ensures he maintains a chance to win any time right down to the final bell. While many associate increasing muscle size with throwing harder strikes, the best way to increase the power of your punches and score more knock outs is to punch with proper technique. By using your entire body to generate a crisp strike you will hit your opponent harder and knock out opposition more frequently.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand with your feet apart slightly more than shoulder width, with your dominant foot behind your lead foot, so that a line through your feet points slightly to the side of your opponent on your non-dominant side.

    • 2

Flex your legs slightly. Standing stiff legged minimizes the energy you can generate.

    • 3

Rotate your shoulders so your rear shoulder is coming forward, turning your chest toward your opponent.

    • 4

Rotate your hips forward at the same time.

    • 5

Shift your weight forward onto your lead leg as you rotate.

    • 6

Extend your arm forward, aiming slightly to the opposite side of center. For example, if you are throwing a right-handed punch, aim at the left side of your opponent's head. Cross punches carry more power.

    • 7

Tighten your fist as you near the moment of impact to maximize the force of the blow.
