1
Lay out a rope ladder on the ground, preferably on the same material that the cricket match will be played on. Stand at one end facing the other and put your left foot inside the first rung, then follow it quickly with your right foot.
-
2
Repeat these steps inside every rung of the ladder until you have reached the other side. Practice this routine repeatedly as fast as possible and be careful to keep your feet precisely inside the ropes of the ladder and avoid stepping outside the confines to imitate accurately the position of a batsman or bowler.
-
3
Stand at the end of the ladder again but this time face to the right so you align with the ladder. Step left with your left foot so that it is inside the first rung and then follow with your right foot. Continue to the end of the ladder.
-
4
Stop at the other side of the ladder and do the same process in reverse with your right foot first followed by your left. You will soon see that your strength and coordination on one side of your body is far superior to the other. Practice the side to side steps on your weak side more to try and match your strong side.
-
5
Time yourself every training session and keep a record so you can try to beat your own time. Race other members of the team to improve cohesion and morale and add competitive spirit. Race in training gear and then in full padding with your bat to simulate game conditions.
-
6
Align your steps on the cricket pitch with those that you practice inside the ladder to improve your batsman's stance and fielding performance, as you will need to concentrate less on footwork and positioning.
