1
Find skates that fit. Your boots can come in a variety of different sizes and styles. It takes time and patience to find the boots that are just right for you. Once you find what you like, stock up so you always have one pair available.

2
Consider your activity. Your outfit will be different if you're practicing than it would be in a competition. Practice outfits have a similar feel and shape as competition outfits, but they're not as intricate, so they're good for everyday wear. Competition outfits are designed specifically for you and your routine. These should be saved for special skating occasions.

3
Choose a costume that fits your routine. Every routine has a theme and a mood. The theme of your routine is pretty easy to identify. If your theme is Spanish, then you'll want to look for a Spanish-style costume. But the mood of your routine can be more difficult to determine. You should pick an outfit that reflects the mood, but doesn't take too much attention away from your performance.

4
Check competition rules. Some competitions may require that skating outfits meet certain requirements. It's best to check this out before you pick out your outfit. Some of these outfits are very expensive, so it's best to get it right the first time.
