How to Customize Football Cleats Online

1
Visit the website of a company that allows you to customize your football cleats online. Nike, for instance, a leader in athletic apparel, allows you to customize your cleats and order them through its website (see Resources).
-
2
Choose the style of cleat you prefer. Football cleats generally come in three heights: low-top, three-quarter-top and high-top. The low-top version leaves the ankle fully exposed; the three-quarter style stops at the ankle; the high-top completely covers the ankle.
-
3
Select the cleat size. To ensure you have the right size you can look at your old cleats or measure your foot against the online foot sizing chart that the company provides. This chart can be printed; you then stand on it to measure your size.
-
4
Choose the type of cleat pattern on the bottom of the cleats. Certain styles put more emphasis on cleats in different areas of the underside of the shoe. If you are a guard playing on the line, you probably want a shoe that has many cleats. Conversely, if you are a running back, you probably want enough cleats to grip the field, but not so many that it slows you down. Some cleats have removable spikes, so you can arrange the pattern the way you see fit.

5
Choose plastic or metal cleats. Check with your league for its rules on metal cleats; many do not allow them. In recent years metal-tipped cleats have been introduced, which have a piece of rounded metal over the plastic cleat. This produces a cleat that is less dangerous than the sharp spike of the original metal cleats.

6
Select the color of the football cleats. Think about your team colors and match the cleats to your uniform. Certain shoe companies will let you customize the color of the outside of the shoe, instep, tongue and back. You may also be able to choose the color of your laces. Some companies offer color choices in pre-set patterns; others allow you to create the color from a blank slate.
