1
Stand up straight and bring your arms out in front of you. Press your palms together so the arms are at chest height and out in front of the torso. Extend the fingertips. Have someone measure the distance from the fingertips to the chest. Add one inch to this measurement. This designates the proper arrow length for your body. For example, if your measured distance is 45 inches, add one inch for a total of 46, the custom length to your body in this case.

2
Select your arrows at an archery shop with the fletching colors of your choice. Most fletchings consist of three feathers, two the same color and one a different color. Choose the colors you like, but stay consistent and gather only arrows with the same fletching pattern (for example, two yellow and one blue).

3
Have the arrows custom painted or use permanent markers to put a unique color code on the arrow shafts. Stay consistent with your color use. For example, if you draw red-orange-red circles around the shafts, stay with this pattern for all of your other arrows.

4
Select the proper arrow tips best suited for your intended use. For example, select practice target tips for target shooting. If you are hunting, employ tri-head razor tips. Tips screw into the ends of the arrow shafts and are changeable to match your needs. Tips are available through archery supply stores or outdoor outfitters.
