How to Put on a Schutt Chinstrap

Chin straps are used with protective athletic head gear in sports such as softball, baseball and football. A chin strap is designed to secure the helmet around the head and hold the lower jaw firmly in place to reduce the possibility of injury during impact. Schutt is a widely recognized name in sports and produces a line of helmets and accessories, including chinstraps. Attaching a Schutt chinstrap to a helmet is a simple process.

Instructions

    • 1

Hold the Schutt chinstrap in front of a football helmet so that two straps, one on top and one on the bottom, extend from both sides. Position the chinstrap with the hollow, padded side nearest the helmet. The word "Schutt" should read from left to right on the outside of the chin pad.

    • 2

Pull the lower strap extending from one side along the bottom side of the helmet and snap it into place. Push the snap top, located on the adjustable buckle, onto the snap base attached on the lower side of the helmet.

    • 3

Hold the top strap on the same side. Loosen and remove the adjustable buckle on the top strap. Feed the strap up and under the face mask cage attached to the helmet. Position the strap to the side where the cage is attached to the helmet. Pull the strap out from behind the top of the facemask cage.

Attach the adjustable buckle back onto the Schutt chinstrap. Push the snap top, attached to the buckle, onto the snap base attached to the upper side of the helmet.

    • 5

Attach the lower strap on the opposite side of the chinstrap to the lower snap on the opposite side of the helmet. Remove the adjustable buckle from the upper strap on the same side and feed it up and under the facemask cage.

    • 6

Attach the adjustable buckle back onto the strap and snap it securely in place. Unsnap the lower straps to put the helmet on and use the adjustable buckles to loosen or tighten the straps as needed for a secure fit.
