How to Put on a Chin Strap on a Football Helmet

The chin strap on a football helmet is responsible for ensuring that the helmet stays attached to your head. Without the chin strap it would be very easy for your helmet to come flying off when you get hit or are making a tackle. In addition, the chin strap also provides some protection for the area. Many chin straps are padded and will help to prevent any minor injuries that could occur if you get hit in the chin.

Instructions

    • 1

Locate the buckles on the helmet. There should be two buckles on one side of the helmet just behind the face mask. These are the buckles where you will attach the chin strap to the helmet so that it permanently stays attached.

    • 2

Buckle the chin strap to the helmet. Thread the ends of the straps through the buckles and pull them securely into place. Make sure that you have pulled each piece of the chin strap the same amount when threading through the buckles so that they have an equal amount of slack in them.

Put the helmet on your head. The ends of the chin strap should be dangling down in front of your chin. Gran the dangling ends and snap them into place on the side of the helmet opposite of the buckles.
